Community shows loads of support for Tom Sundawo at charity soccer

Soccer players enjoy sunny weather and a great vibe at Tom Sundawo's annual fundraiser.

The vibe was electric as soccer stars with kind hearts took to the field for a good cause.

The annual soccer fundraiser tournament for Tom Sundawo saw dozens of players compete at Fast Sports Fusion, Old Parktonian Sports Club, Bordeaux, on April 27.

After a two-year break, the tournament returned with tremendous success.

“I am so happy with how it is going,” said Sundawo, who was wrapped in a blanket in his wheelchair, accompanied by other residents of Ann Harding Cheshire Home.

“The soccer is great, the weather is sunny and everyone is having fun. It is good to be back.”

The fundraiser had been held from 2013 to 2019 to help cover Sundawo’s accommodation and care at the Northwold home before the Covid-19 pandemic forced them to take a break.

Sundawo was working as a manager at a restaurant in Auckland Park when he was shot in the head at point-blank range during an armed robbery.

This left him without the ability to walk or use his right hand.

He makes some money as a quality controller but it is not enough to cover his care.

The fundraiser, with its vibrant atmosphere, delicious food and drinks, and great soccer, will help ensure he is cared for.
