Honeydew police have recovered stolen batteries and UPSs worth R1.5 million at a house in Cosmo City on January 19.
Spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said the uninterruptible power supplies, as well as a car, were kept at the house.
“Two of our members were patrolling around Cosmo City at South Africa Drive. They spotted a blue Ford Fiesta. with two… males inside,” Muthan explained, saying the vehicle was suspicious as the registration was partially covered with paper.
“The officers searched it and they found a firearm under the back seat, tape and rope. They arrested them and proceeded to the station’s crime office to help with investigation.”
The suspects had suspicious WhatsApp messages and SMSs, and a video of a man tied up with the tape.
“They confessed and took the officers to Muldersdrift where they had committed a business robbery. There they found members from Muldersdrift Police Station on the scene.”
From there the suspects led police to the house in Cosmo City, where the stolen goods were kept.
“It looks like mainly batteries, large computer batteries, large UPS batteries to the value of R1,5 million, together with a white Toyota Fortuner and a trailer. This shows the members of Honeydew Police Station are working hard to fight crime in the area.”
Muthan said the recovery of these batteries puts a dent in the illegal sale of such items in the area.
