Ralf Bittkau wishes residents a safe festive season

BOSKRUIN – Ward councillor hopes things will be more normal next year.

Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau has wished residents well over the festive season in his year-end message.

He writes:

It has been only a short time since the elections and my return to my roots in Ward 101.

To say that a lot has changed in the five years since I was last the ward councillor in this area is putting it mildly.

Social media has become the major form of communication but unfortunately often runs totally uncontrolled. However, it can also serve as a great benefit to the community if utilised correctly. For this purpose, I have created suburb-specific WhatsApp groups purely for service delivery related issues which residents can join by contacting me on 084 572 4002.

I don’t work on Facebook, Telegram or Twitter as these are not properly controlled environments.

Our most pressing issues are repeated power outages, failing water reticulation, crumbling roads and vandalised streetlights. All these are getting my priority attention and we are showing progress even if not at a rate as wished for by the residents or myself.

Covid-19 and now our fourth wave is another major stumbling block for improved service delivery, however, I feel we have managed to do quite well considering that we do not even have an established mayoral committee as I write this.

With all this, I would like to wish all residents a peaceful and pleasant festive season and please note that I will be available for most of the holiday period even if slightly limited at times.

Happy holidays and a great festive season to everyone, stay safe and healthy and may next year see us finally return to normal or close to normal ways of life.
