A 27-year-old man was recently convicted by Randburg Magistrate’s Court for attempted house robbery.

Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja explained that Gift Tshabalala was found guilty for a crime perpetrated at about 20:05 on July 30.

“It is alleged that the victim… decided to go the bathroom. On his way, he met [an] unknown person in the passage,” Maja explained.

“The suspect entered the house through [an] open bathroom window. The suspect threatened the victim with a knife but the victim overpowered him. The police and neighbours were called to assist. The suspect was arrested.”

A house robbery docket was registered and assigned to Detective Sergeant Glen Mdaka for further investigation. This detective collected all evidence, which was presented to the court.

“The court sentenced Tshabalala to 12 years’ imprisonment, which is count 1 for housebreaking with intent to rob. On count 2, which is trespassing, he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. The sentences will run concurrently and [Tshabalala was] further declared unfit to possess a firearm.”

The Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones applauded the sterling work done by Mdaka.
