PRAEGVILLE – Cricketers enjoy a solid first season in the Premier A League.

The official league season under Central Gauteng Lions was shortened this year, starting in February and ending mid-April.

The cricket club based at Randburg Sports Complex played in its first season of the Premier A-League, and finished in an impressive fifth place, which was the target the club committee and players had in mind.

“Because of the uncertainty caused by Covid-19, the coaches and players were happy with the outcome and the cricket was of a very high and competitive standard,” said the club’s Philasande Sixaba.

“There were many highlights from the maiden season of the Premier A division including two centuries from captain Chris Greaves. The club also undertook a mentorship programme for promising young cricketers to be involved with the Premier A side. Thabo Mokgabi, Matthew Ford, and Mark Shirley all took advantage of this as players under the age of 20.”

A few months down the line and players are involved in the club’s own Randburg Premier League on the weekends.

This to stay in form and have fun ahead of the next season starting later in the year.

The club will also host its AGM to elect new committee members on 12 June.
