Karla Lotz is a talented young musician from Curro Aurora that will participate in the semi-final round of the National Eisteddfod Academy’s Young Performer Awards Competition that will be held at the Roodepoort Theatre in May.
Lotz is one of only two Grade 7 learners that qualified for the semi-finals in the contemporary music section.
The National Eisteddfod Academy – a leading non-profit organisation for youth development in music, dance, drama and visual arts – annually presents the Young Performer Awards Competition.
Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the semi-final and final rounds of the 2020 competition did not take place.
Curro Aurora’s Mageshree Tandree said, “It is therefore with great relief and excitement that the NEA is able to once again host this competition that will see both the 2020 and 2021 qualifiers compete against each other.
“Karla feels quite torn about what song she should perform. She qualified with My African Dream. It’s of course a proudly South African song and has a lot of emotional connection. There is another song called Lullaby of Birdland, which she is entering for the Curro Art Superhero’s event this year,” said Tandree.
“It is also a great song, technically difficult and she simply loves performing it. When you get to the National Eisteddfod stage it is always of a very high standard, and song choice can make a big difference. She would want to give it her best shot.”
