Northwold residents left with little or no water for more than two weeks

NORTHWOLD – Northwold residents were left with little or no water supply for over two weeks due.

Northwold residents were left with little or no water supply for more than two weeks due to an initial burst and subsequent faulty valve that started on 12 April.

Concerned Northwold resident Lisa Cunningham said a water pipe burst at the corner of 3rd Road and 1st Street and numerous calls were placed with Joburg Water. The City utility repaired the burst by 10pm on the same day.
“I cannot even begin to imagine the thousands of litres of water that was lost during that initial burst,” said Cunningham.
In the days following the repair, residents in the surrounding streets had no water every morning until around 12pm.

“When we did have water, the pressure was extremely low. We then had no water or low water pressure again in the evenings.”
She added that she and other residents took all the steps necessary to report the issue to Joburg Water with very little response.
“The situation grew extremely frustrating. We have a long email thread to and from the depot heads of Randburg and Roodepoort as well as countless calls and messages.”

She said onsite technicians informed her that a faulty valve further up the pipeline was to blame and required repairs, and normal water supply to the area was only fully restored after this valve was fixed on 25 April.

The Randburg Sun has contacted Joburg Water for their response on the matter and awaits their comment.
