Women knit for a great cause
NORTHWOLD – Women got together to meet new people and knit for charities that donate knitted items to less fortunate babies and children.
Several enthusiastic knitters and crocheters enjoyed a day of knitting for a cause at the Ann Harding Cheshire Home on 5 May.
Women came together, met new people and enjoyed their craft knitting for charities that donate knitted items to less fortunate babies and children.
“We put the word out to our local community for budding knitters to join us in this cause, and the response has been so heart-warming. Each month, we wish to do this for a different charity, who will then explain what their specific needs are, be it baby clothes, blankets, scarves, jumpers, and so on,” said the Ann Harding Cheshire Home’s Lorraine Tebbutt.
Entrance, with all Covid-19 safety protocols observed, cost the women R55, with endless cups of coffee served from the charity shop’s café, Annie’s Place. “The ladies use some of the donated materials available from the charity shop, and our shop’s volunteers love to help out too.”
Tebbutt explained that the charity shop receives so much love and care from the local community that, when the need arises, they help out less fortunate communities when and where they can.
Recently, a small fire in the Kya Sand informal settlement tore through the homes of a few families, and the charity felt a need to help out. “We had quite a few items at our store in terms of clothing, blankets and carpets that we were able to donate to some of the families that were affected by the fire through a community outreach programme. We often do this when we see there is a need for it,” concluded Tebbutt.
