Saints cricketing alumni excel

LYME PARK – St Stithians College is proud to announce the recent accolades of two Saints alumni and rising cricket stars Ryan Rickelton and Curtis Campher.

St Stithians College is proud to announce the recent accolades of two Saints alumni and rising cricket stars Ryan Rickelton and Curtis Campher.

After Cricket South Africa’s announcement of the T20 Protea squad to play in Pakistan early next month, the college is proud to announce that Rickelton was selected as a top-order batsman/wicketkeeper.
Rickelton attended St Stithians Prep then progressed to the Boys’ College where he matriculated in 2014. His father, Ian Rickelton was director of sport at the Boys’ College for 16 years.

Ian together with the school’s Peter Stringer, played a significant role in Ryan’s early development as a cricketer.
“Ryan is known as one of the fittest and best-conditioned cricketers in the Lions franchise team. His great work ethic comes from his dad, who himself, is a very dedicated and active sportsman,” said the school’s Annie Fyfe-Hitchings.

Rickelton scored 11 centuries for St Stithians Boys College 1st team, this included 210 runs against Centurion High School. After matriculating, Rickelton had a season in New Zealand where he played for the Fire Birds 2nd 11 in Wellington. He then returned to South Africa and made his debut for the Lions in 2017.

“Our cricket community at St Stithians are extremely proud of Ryan’s selection and we all believe that Ryan will grab this opportunity with both hands. One and all wish him well,” added Fyfe-Hitchings.
Campher was named Man of the Series this week for his performances for Ireland against UAE.

Campher built on his fantastic debut against England scoring 89 runs and taking wickets in both games against UEA. Ireland plays against Afghanistan on 21, 23 and 26 January.
“We are all looking forward to some more top performances from Curtis. Congratulations from one and all.”
