Talented musicians step in to help those in need

FERNDALE – An arts and culture NPO has responded to the needs of underprivileged communities during the Covid-19 lockdown.

An arts and culture NPO has responded to the needs of underprivileged communities during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Mshengu Music Culture Foundation, based in Ferndale and Vanderbijlpark, is an NPO that began in 2015 after seeing an opportunity for skilled artistic industry talents to be used within disadvantaged communities, orphanages, and schools.

When Covid-19 hit South Africa, the organisation had to formulate other plans to help those in need.

The foundation has been helping many disadvantaged communities during the Covid-19 lockdown period thanks to generous donations they have collected from their supporters.

They have been able to deliver hundreds of non-perishable food items and toiletries to these communities in both the Randburg and Vanderbijlpark area.

When out of lockdown, the NPO helps people in these communities learn to read, write and play an instrument.

The foundation’s Rolene Cochrane said, “We started our foundation when we saw an opportunity to feed the tummy, hearts and minds through music, and we also help schools in disadvantaged communities to raise funds for themselves by hosting talent shows called ‘Show Us What You Got’.”We believe we can change the world by making a difference and it starts with you and me.

“The foundation hopes to continue work like this throughout the lockdown period and beyond.
