Two critical in Malibongwe truck collision

SHARONLEA – Two men were left critically injured after two trucks collided on Malibongwe Drive on 12 May.

Two men were left critically injured after two trucks collided on Malibongwe Drive on 12 May.

According to ER24’s Russel Meiring, the men are believed to be in their 40s and were left critically injured when their trucks collided at the intersection of Malibongwe and President Fouche drives.

ER24 paramedics, along with the provincial services, arrived on the scene to find the two wrecked trucks in the middle of the road.

“On closer inspection, medics found the two men lying trapped inside the one truck. Both men had sustained numerous injuries to their legs and were in a critical condition,” said Meiring.

Rescue services had to use specialised tools to free the two men. Once freed, medics treated the men and provided both with advanced life support interventions.

Shortly after treatment, one man was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital while the other patient was transported by ambulance.

The driver of the second truck was not found on the scene.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
