Old Parktownian Sports Clubs hosts annual Charity Ladies Bowls afternoon

BORDEAUX – The Old Parktownian Bowls Club hosts annual Charity Ladies Bowls afternoon in honour of South African Guide-Dogs Association.

The Old Parktownian Bowls Club hosted their annual Charity Ladies Bowls afternoon.

The tournament featured clubs from all over Johannesburg. The proceeds from the sunny afternoon were donated to their chosen charity of the year, the South African Guide-Dogs Association.

The event has happened every year on the first Wednesday of March for more than 15 years. On this occasion, women from all over the city in their matching team shirts and a competitive spirit were ready to enjoy the game of bowls for a good cause.

The tournament commenced with a random selection of teams who would begin to play against each other, followed by ‘the spider’. The spider is a game where players stand on the peripheral on the green, with one foot in the ditch. Once a signal is given, players must release their bowls towards the centre of the green where an object has been placed. The player whose bowl stops closest to the object wins. In this case, players had to get their ball closest to the nose of a toy fox placed in the centre of the green. Once the spider was complete, the tournament commenced.

Representatives from the South African Guide-Dogs Association were present at the charity day with two of the pups of honour. The organisation was happy to enjoy the day in the sun as well as pleased with the donation from the Old Parktownian Bowls Club. After the tournament was complete, the teams made their way to enjoy food and drink at decorative tables inside the club.
