An officers farewell at Honeydew Police Station

HONEYDEW – Honeydew Police Station made sure to celebrate the retirement of one of their own by hosting a special event to recognise his work.

Apart from birthdays and funerals, it is rare that we all celebrate the lives of those around us.

Bearing this in mind it was important for the Honeydew Police Station to celebrate one of their own as he took his retirement. After serving 36 years in the South African Police Service, eight of which were spent at the station, Colonel Wilson Seshoka bid farewell to his former colleagues and officers.

The event was held at Blueberry Hill Hotel and was attended by many officers, including those from Linden and Krugersdorp stations. Station Commander, Brigadier Anesh Maharaj, said Seshoka had come through the ranks, working at various stations. “I strongly believe this officer held the key to the station, he was always the first to arrive and the last to leave, his presence will be missed,” he said. He added that he was not just a colleague but a mentor too. “I am going to miss him, and wish him well in the future.” Maharaj thinks Seshoka leaves a legacy of good work ethic, having always lead from the front. “He was a good teacher, showing detectives how they should be working.”

One by one officers stood up and shared what they would miss about Seshoka and thanked his family for having shared such a large chunk of his life with them as they recognised that through the years he spent more time at the office and less of his time with his family due to his working hours.

In his farewell speech, Seshoka made sure to inspire fellow officers to continue to make a difference at the station and in turn aid to the livelihood of the community. He wished the officers well in their work and hoped that he served as a vessel of inspiration to them all.
