Bowls hist for a six at the Randburg Bowls Club

BOSKRUIN – Youngsters play a game of 'cricket' on the bowls green at Randburg Bowls Club.

Randburg Bowls Club celebrated Day of Reconciliation, by hosting a fun “cricket” game on their bowls green.

Attended by 76, members, visitors and aspirant bowlers, Randburg decided to introduce new bowlers to the game of bowls in a fun way, by having a game of cricket using bowls.

The participants were divided into teams and proceeded to play a game of cricket on the bowls green using normal goals. Wickets were placed on the green, the teams had to deliver the bowls in such a manner that they knocked the bails off the wickets.

Club vice president, and event organiser, Ray Turner said, “We wanted to attract people old and young to come and have some fun on the bowls green, and at the same time let them enjoy the game of bowls. This was a different format that attracted people as young as nine, and the enjoyment and competitiveness was evidence of how much people enjoyed the day.”

In true Reconciliation Day spirit, a braai was enjoyed by all after the cricket was finished, the younger players enjoyed some fun time on the jumping castle.

“This was a very special day, celebrating a day of real togetherness while enjoying a fun day on the bowls green,” said the president of the bowls club, Laurie Stafford.

“Randburg is a family-friendly club and we welcome bowlers and aspirant bowlers from eight to 80.”
