ZANDSPRUIT – Local daycare celebrates Christmas cheer with R15 000 cash donation at end of year Christmas party

Randburg Sun spread some Christmas cheer at Zamaokuhle Day Care in Zandspruit at their end-of-year Christmas party on 13 December.

Local shopping complex Boskruin Village generously donated R15 000 which was raised by shoppers who had spent R300 at certain tenants at the centre. Each donation was symbolised by an additional bauble added to the Christmas tree at the centre.

The day saw the children at Zamokuhle all smiles while they showcased their excellent performances. The toddlers started off the party with a play which re-enacted the immaculate conception of Jesus Christ. This was followed by emotive songs and the opportunity for each bundle of joy to introduce themselves. Every child was given an opportunity to state their full name, age and their future occupations. The sea of tiny faces sought to be everything from pilots, to lawyers to nurses, and teacher and doctor were the most common choice among the future professionals.

The team from the Randburg Sun donated soccer balls, painted the faces of the little ones, and spent the afternoon playing with their friends at Zamakuhle Day Care. “We have supported this organisation for a few years now, and it is always a highlight to visit the children and spend some time with us. The need is great, and every little thing that we can do to help, is a big thng in the eyes of these children. I would personally like to that Boskruin Village for their generous donation – I know that Princess and the team at Zamakuhle will put it to excellent use,” said Aimee McGill, editor of Randburg Sun.

Their songs were followed by a surprise visit by Santa Claus who later handed out party packs to the children with wide-eyed faces.

The donation of R15 000 was handed over by Lucile Budhu of the marketing department at Boskruin Village. Portfolio manager Budhu shared a few words about how the donations were collected and the reason the centre chose to spread festive cheer in this way. Boskruin Village saw itself as a community mall and emphasised that part of being a staple in the community included a form of responsibility.

The owner and founder of Zamokuhle, Princess Kwakwari was overjoyed with the cash donation. Zamokuhle has run the centre for four years and has wished to expand the centre with additional and separate toilets for boys and girls. With the cash donation, a way to fulfil this dream has manifested. The centre began as a way to keep children safe while their parents went to work. The children were initially housed in a shack up the road from its current painted brick structure.

The children of Zamokuhle waved their guests goodbye after an afternoon of song, dance and sports activity with celebratory festive cheer.
