Police patrol nets three armed suspects in separate incidents

DOUGLASDALE – The police in Douglasdale arrested two suspects aged 22 and 21 for armed robbery, assault grievous bodily harm and possession of unlicensed firearms.


It is alleged that on 24 October at about 8pm, the Douglasdale police were patrolling around the North Riding area when they were approached by a man (24) who was bleeding heavily from the head.

He informed the police that he had just been attacked and robbed of his two cell phones and cash. He had been walking along the street when confronted by two unknown armed suspects who also threatened him with a knife and hit him with a firearm on his head.

The police swiftly reacted to the complaint and proceeded on a manhunt for the suspects. The two suspects were spotted in the Northlands area. They were searched and found to be in possession of the complainant’s other cell phone. A knife and a firearm were also recovered.

In an unrelated incident, the police in Douglasdale started to investigate cases of possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition following the recent arrest of a suspect (26) in the early hours of the morning.

Police were on patrol around Kya Sands when they came across five suspicious-looking unknown men walking along the street. When the suspects noticed the police vehicle approaching, they ran away into different directions.

The police gave chase and managed to corner one suspect. He was searched and found to be in possession of an unlicensed pistol and three live rounds. The other four suspects are still at large.

The Station Commander of Douglasdale Police Station, Brigadier Veeshani Arikum, applauded the quick response of the members and their commitment.

She added, “Licensed firearm owners must always ensure the safekeeping of their firearms and also report them immediately to the nearest police station when they are lost.”

The three arrested suspects will appear in Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.

Police investigations continue and community members are encouraged to report crime and any suspicious behaviour to their local police station.
