Police foil robbery and arrest three suspects

DOUGLASDALE – The Douglasdale Police were quick to respond to crime in the area. Suspects are due to appear at the Randburg Magistrate's court.

The police in Douglasdale have been involved in investigations of incidents of possession of suspected stolen property and dangerous weapons and robbery after three suspects aged between 28 and 32 were arrested on 10 October at about 8pm.

Members of the Johannesburg West Crime Combating Unit in Johannesburg District were patrolling in the Fourways area when they received a lookout for suspects in a vehicle who had just robbed a 19-year-old man, who was driving near the intersection of Cedar and Uranium streets, of his cell phone and travel bag.

On the corner of Uranium Street and William Nicol Drive, they came across the suspects who were busy trying to rob another motorist in a silver Audi Q5. When the suspects saw the police, they tried to run to their getaway vehicle, a white VW Golf 6 GTI which was parked along the road. The police managed to corner them and recovered the cell phone of the 19-year-old victim and his travel bag.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were using a toy gun in the commission of their crimes. The police will also look into whether the suspects are linked to other crimes.

The Station Commander of Douglasdale police, Brigadier Veeshani Arikum applauded the quick response of the members and their commitment to ensuring that the people of Douglasdale were and felt safe.

The suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon. The community is encouraged to report crime in the area by phoning 011 699 1300 or the Relief Commander on 071 675 7158 or 086 0010 111.
