Hoërskool Randburg is tops at tennis

FONTAINEBLEAU – Hoërskool Randburg cannot stop winning on the school tennis scene.

Hoërskool Randburg is achieving success after success in their tennis.

The school’s boys’ 1st team followed up their win in the Gauteng Central Inter-High earlier in the year, by taking the Inter Africa Bureau de Change, in Bethlehem, Free State.

This tournament from 4 to 6 September featured 16 of the best school tennis teams in the country in each of the 1st and 2nd team divisions.

Randburg’s 1st team beat Hoërskool Marais Viljoen from Alberton 4–2 in the final.

The school’s 2nd team also reached the final of their division but lost against Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool.

“I feel very privileged to have played a role in the development of three of the four 1st team players as well as two of the four 2nd team players,” said team coach, Hanco Mostert, who has coached 1st team captain Albert Kirsten and player Bushi Seihleko for 12 years.

The other members of the 1st team are Evert van Schalkwyk and Dian Naudé.

“Their [players’] strength lies with their undying love for tennis, their exceptional leadership skills, commitment, work ethic and focuses on achieving their personal goals, as well as goals set by their various teams and clubs,” added Mostert.

Proud captain, Albert agreed in the strength of his players’ abilities and also pointed to their future potential.

“There is not one player who is in matric so we all will be playing tennis for the school next year too,” he said.

“This year was the first time we played in the premier school league and the first time we won the inter-high. It has been a great year and next year will be even better.”

All four of the 1st team players are also in provincial tennis teams. Furthermore, Albert said many of the 2nd team players and other squad members have brought incredible depth to the school’s tennis and will ensure its success in the years to come.

Albert is also the captain of the Central Gauteng U19 team and has received Tennis South Africa school colours.
