A close shave for North Riding children

NORTH RIDING – One concerned parent contacted the Randburg Sun to inform us of his story of the near kidnapping of his children.

In light of recent reports of suspicious activity surrounding potential stalkers or kidnappers around local schools reported to the Honeydew police, one concerned parent contacted Randburg Sun to inform us of his story.

When North Riding resident Mbuso Zondi came home and asked his children about their day, they informed him of a man acting suspiciously.

He said, “My children told me that he asked them the names of the schools that they were going to and what time they got out of school, which they didn’t disclose.”

A while later, Zondi saw a vehicle similar to the one described to him by his children which they said the man was driving, parked near Golden Harvest Park and walked closer to speak to the driver.

“As he saw me he drove off,” said Zondi.

On 27 August, Zondi was walking home from work when he once again saw the same vehicle parked outside Golden Harvest Park.

“Little did I know that he had parked his car and was walking parallel to my kids on the gravel road. As soon as my daughters saw me they screamed my name. He probably heard them as he started jogging towards his car. When I tried to stop him he ignored me and sped off.”

According to Zondi, the vehicle that the man is driving is a blue older model Opel Astra, similar to the vehicle in the details of suspicious activity reported to the Honeydew police in the past week.

Zondi reported the matter to the Honeydew police who informed him that a police inquiry into the situation would be opened.

Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said, “What we usually do in this situation is open up an inquiry into the suspicious behaviour where investigators will investigate the matter to see if there is any concrete evidence for a case to be opened.

“In this situation, investigators will monitor the area in question and act on any reports they receive of suspicious activity from the community. “We further appeal to the community to report suspicious behaviour to our police station.”
