Potential car break-ins thwarted by police

LINDEN – Linden police arrested three suspicious individuals with alleged car-breaking implements near a busy Randburg shopping centre.

A potential spate of car break-ins has been thwarted by the Linden police after patrolling officers arrested three suspicious individuals with alleged car-breaking implements near a busy Randburg shopping centre.

In the early hours of 29 August, police were patrolling near the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and Weltevreden Road when they noticed a suspicious blue Chevrolet Spark parked in an uncommon location.

Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said, “The officers stopped near the car and asked the three occupants to step out of the car, to search the car.”

When officers searched the car, they found various tools commonly used to break into cars at busy shopping centres.

Officers recovered a stainless hacksaw, a bolt cutter, a glove containing two Allen keys and various other car-breaking implements.

Matumba continued, “After the officers searched the suspects, they asked what they were doing with all the tools, and they failed to give a satisfactory reason. The trio were arrested under suspicion of possessing car-breaking implements and were detained at the Linden Police Station.”
