Golfers make Aurora proud

SUNDOWNER – The Curro Aurora golf team finished first at the South African High School Golf Championship.

The Curro Aurora golf team finished tied for first at the South African High School Golf Championship at Koro Creek Bushveld Golf Estate in Modimolle, Limpopo.

The school’s head of sport Adrian Ferreira said Curro Aurora were the defending champions, having won the tournament in 2017 and 2018.

Ferreira said, “The 36-hole tournament was played over two days and included 21 teams from across the country which qualified through their provincial unions. The best three of the four team members’ medal scores were tallied after each day’s round.”

After trailing behind on day two, Curro Aurora played themselves into contention on the closing nine holes.

In a dramatic finish, they finished tied for first with 2016 winners, De Villiers Graaff High School, on three over par, before ending up in second place on the fourth player count-out rule.

The team comprised learners Cole Stevens, Kieron van Wyk, Carl Mwale and Stefano Marchetti.

Kieron finished tied second in the individual competition with a score of three under par.
