Provincial Commisioner’s meeting unpacks crime in Douglasdale

KYA SAND – Douglasale Police Station facilitated a Provincial Commissioner's meeting with Joburg District management, Douglasdale Police Station management and various stakeholders.

 


On 24 August, the Douglasale Police Station facilitated a Provincial Commissioner’s meeting with Joburg District management, Douglasdale Police Station management and various stakeholders.

The meeting was held at the Christian Revival Church in Kya Sand.

The morning was opened with prayer by pastor Albert Nkane of the church and ward councillor David Folley made the welcoming remarks. Folley encouraged all present ‘not to hold back’ in order for the relevant parties to ‘facilitate rectifications to these challenges’ raised and for community members to work together to reduce crime.

The purpose of the meeting was outlined by Joburg District commissioner, Major General Max Masha who spoke about the nature of crime in the area and the importance of cohesion. “All these resources, we need to make them move in one direction, because together we can do so much more and together we can make Douglasdale a better place to live in,” he said.

An in-depth crime presentation was delivered by Brigadier Mpho Chakalane who contextualised the crime situation in the area by providing the crime statistics of previous years and an overview of the current crime situation.

Community members were given the floor to voice their opinions, questions, comments and proposals. This was followed by input from various members of management and representatives of the provincial leg of leadership.

Closing comments came from Douglasdale Community Policing chairperson Dez Pillay. Community members were encouraged to stay vigilant and report crimes to their local police station.
