Rand Park High hosts winter festival for surrounding primary schools
RANDPARK RIDGE – Rand Park High School hosted a winter sports festival for primary school learners to get a taste of sport at high school.
Dozens of primary school children and their families visited Rand Park High School on Saturday 20 July, despite the chill that had set in for the weekend, for the school’s popular Winter Sports Festival.
The festival has been flagged as an annual event hosted by the high school and offers games from various winter sports. Games of netball, touch-rugby and hockey were offered to primary school children who love their sport.
Eager participants were divided into teams and managed by the senior players at the high school. Learners from local primary schools attended and made the most of the opportunity to experience what it is like to play sport at a high school.
Teams were mixed to represent players from different schools and encourage new friendships. The high school players who coached and motivated the primary school participants also benefited from this opportunity which further developed their communication and leadership skills. The festival was generously sponsored by Graeme Hamilton Reid of Chas Everitt.
Hockey players were encouraged to play netball and touch-rugby and vice versa. It was a morning filled with new experiences, new friendships, great fun and building confidence.
