Highlands Park ready for the new season and hungry for silverware

LINKSFIELD – Highlands Park honours its players for a job well done in the previous season.

Highlands Park FC, known as the Lions of the North to their avid fans, may have outdone themselves when they roared to a top-eight finish in the past season but they are hoping to do even better this time around when the new season opens in August.

Highlands finish in the top eight of the Absa Premiership is the first since their return to the Premier Soccer League three seasons ago.

This milestone achievement was celebrated by the Balfour Park-based outfit with an awards ceremony at the Audi Centre Rivonia showroom in Sunninghill to honour the ‘pride’ for the feat which was largely attributed to the hard work and team effort exhibited in the 2018/19 season.

Brad Kaftel, chairperson of Highlands Park, in honouring the players and technical staff said, “We have truly outperformed ourselves and this feat cannot go unnoticed.”

One of the Linksfield-headquartered club’s directors Larry Brookstone said the team was eager for the coming season to prove that their seventh

position last season was no fluke.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the players for a job well done in a good season and for placing us where we are today, in the top eight. I also welcome the newcomers and say to them welcome home. I hope you will also help us to get to greater heights in our search for glory,” he said.

Turning to their opening match of the new season, Brookstone said he was aware of the magnitude of the game against Kaizer Chiefs but was confident their new signings could complement the squad and hopefully triumph over Amakhosi.

“I know Chiefs considers itself a wounded lot in the previous season and will spare nothing to prove that they are back. It’s going to be a tough game but we’re in for the challenge,” Brookstone concluded.
