The Police have made a major drug bust at a property on Vine Avenue on 2 July.
The property is located in a residential area, and according to provincial police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela, suspects at the property were allegedly involved in the manufacturing of drugs such as Cat and other high-valued drugs with highly sophisticated equipment.
Makhubela said that the police have been observing the property for quite some time and investigation into the drug operation is still continuing. “Police members raided the property, and suspects that were inside the house managed to escape when they heard the police trying to enter.
“Inside the property, we found large machines that are used to manufacture drugs, as well as drug ingredients and already processed drugs. We are still conducting our investigation to trace these suspects and find the true extent of their operation.”
Makhubela added that crime intelligence operatives had been on the ground for a while now to make sure that the house is a place where drug manufacturing is taking place.
He said that at this stage the street value of the drugs, equipment and raw ingredients is still unclear.
“Investigations in this matter will continue, and the owner of the property will be brought to book. This was clearly a sophisticated operation with an expensive laboratory set-up, and we are happy that we were able to stop it in its tracks and prevent more drugs coming onto our streets.”
Police are still searching for the suspects.
