Saints girls care about their community
LYME PARK – St Stithians Girls' College welcomed a bus full of primary school learners and visited the elderly as part of their community engagement day on 8 June.
With Youth Day around the corner, St Stithians Girls’ College only found it appropriate to welcome a bus full of primary school learners and visit the elderly as part of their community engagement day on 8 June.
Children from Tirisano Primary School in Cosmo City arrived bright and early in the morning and were welcomed by students and staff from St Stithians, under the direction of maths staff member Jennifer Judd.
St Stithians’ Annie Fyfe-Hitchings said, “A wonderful time was had by One and All. Pupils were divided into student led groups and started a series of extremely creative rotations exploring art, robotics, games, maths and reading.”
Tirisano learners were then given lunch packs that were provided by the Saints girls before they boarded their bus to return home.
On the same day, Grade 8 students from St Stithians Girls’ College provided a wonderful High Tea event for elderly members of the community.
Visitors to the school included residents of the Donovan Mcdonald Retirement Home, Bethany Home, Bella Vista Home, Sonneglans Park Retirement Village and Frederic Place Old Age Home.
Fyfe-Hitchings added, “Entertainment was provided by the students from St Stithians Girls’ College who performed musical items to accompany the scrumptious high tea that had been arranged by the students in Grade 8.”
Vicky Chilvers is the Director of Community Engagement at the Girls’ College, who was supported by the music staff and members of staff who gave up their Saturday with the students to provide joy and happiness for the invited guests.
