Tams Hair raises money for animals at the SPCA

BROMHOF – A new hair salon used its opening as an opportunity to plough back into the community.

Tams Hair, which recently opened in Bromhoff, dedicated 8 June to raise money for animals at the SPCA.

The hair salon at Parkside Centre chose to celebrate a collaboration with the non-profit organisation to raise money with a variety of fun ways to donate to the animal shelter. The salon used the event to mark their introduction to the area, where their presence was made known through support for a good cause.

Owner Tamie Thompson ‘loves animals’ and wanted to do something different, to mark the arrival her new hair salon. Thompson opened the salon’s doors earlier this year on 30 March after over a decade of experience in the hair industry. The hairstylist turned business owner faced health issues with her wrists and hands which almost deterred her hair care career. Thompson met her fellow hairstylists when they all trained together at Carlton Hair at Cresta.

The entrepreneur and her friends turned employees Charmaine Barnard, Kabelo Musa, Alicia van der Merwe and Precious Malatji reunite again to bring Tam’s Hair to life, explained Barnard who doubled as Thompson’s best friend and thrilled to handle admin at the salon.

All stylists donated 100 per cent of their paycheck on Saturday, where they worked from 7am to 7pm, to the Randburg SPCA after they performed blow-dries for R100. The stylists were able to blow-dry 54 customers’ hair for the cause and raised an impressive R8 861. The money from the blow-dries was supplemented by face painting, selling hot drinks and rusks and various raffles facilitated by friends of Thompson. Donations were also given in the form of dog and cat food.
