Seren House celebrates the value of kindness in school fun run

MALANSHOF – Seren House Cottage School helps raise funds for critical medical treatment.

This term, Seren House Cottage School got their running shoes on to raise funds for six-year-old Tristan Slabbert who needs critical medical treatment.

The learners, parents and their supporters raised R21 000 for the Slabbert which was handed over to his dad, Barrett Slabbert in a moving ceremony at the school.

Learners of this newly-established school was challenged to run as many laps as possible around the Randburg Sports Complex fields. Each lap was sponsored and the learners outdid themselves, with many running as much 80 laps (roughly 8.5km) during the morning. One learner ran over 100 laps.

Seren House chooses a different cause to support each term and upon hearing about Tristan’s medical plight, the children, parents and staff of Seren House reached out a helping hand. Tristan, who is not a learner at the school, has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease which requires him to have intravenous infusions every six weeks. As these hospital visits are not fully covered by medical aid, they come at a large cost to his parents.

“We are really proud of our students and their parents who have gone above and beyond for this little boy. It really demonstrates the value of kindness Seren House aims to promote,” said principal Dr Eirwen Oswald.

Seren House has also supported the Slabberts’ own fundraising efforts which included bake sales and an action netball fun day. Seren House Cottage School was officially opened in January this year and has gone from strength to strength, promoting an education that focuses on teaching the individual. The intimate learning environment aims to foster the values of kindness, discipline, integrity and academic diligence.
