Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba blames load-shedding on corruption at Eskom
RANDBURG – DA leadership outlines plans to deal with the Eskom energy crisis.
Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba has blamed corruption on Eskom which saw the country suffer from load-shedding consistently. Mashaba was speaking at the Eskom Randburg Substation on 26 March.
“We’ve seen our residents across Johannesburg suffering from blackouts because of the corruption and mismanagement of Eskom,” said Mashaba.
Mashaba was joined by DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, Gauteng Premier Candidate, Solly Msimanga, Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa, and Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato. The party’s leadership was addressing the residents about the DA-led government plans to deal with the Eskom energy crisis.
“As a City, we have experienced many challenges which have negatively impacted our entities’ ability to address power-generation challenges. Over the past week it has felt the devastating impact of load-shedding by our communities. I requested the formalisation of plans with key departments and entities to ensure that disruption to City Power services is minimised should any future blackouts occur.”
The mayor said he is in discussion with private sectors to acquire more pointsmen to assist during load-shedding.
“I am begging the engagement with the private sector to acquire additional pointsmen who can assist us in easing traffic congestion caused by load-shedding.”
Other leaders also shared the views on Eskom’s crisis of load-shedding.
