Suspect denied bail at Randburg Magistrate’s Court

FERNDALE – The robbery suspect allegedly threatened a victim with an unknown weapon.

A 34-year-old suspect appeared briefly at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court and was remanded in custody after he faced charges of robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.

The suspect was also found to have had in his possession, stolen items. It is alleged that on 26 February, at about 6.15pm a victim was stationary at the robots of corner Bram Fischer Drive and Dover Street when three suspects pounced on him. He alleged that his sunroof and windows were open when the trio approached him demanding his belongings.

“One of the suspects threatened him with an unknown object from the waist and he handed over his items,” said Captain Makgowanyana Maja of the Randburg Police Station.

The victim approached the officers who were around the vicinity and informed them. “He further pointed out the suspect before he could disappear and the Johannesburg Metro police officers arrested him,” explained Maja.

The suspect was detained in police custody until he appeared in court on 28 February and was referred back into custody for further investigation. Maja said the management of the station would like to thank the officers for their wonderful work in rooting out criminal elements in our society more especially in the intersections during peak hours.

“Robberies at intersections during peak hours are of major concern, so we plead with our community/motorist to make sure that their windows are closed all the time during those times,” said Maja.

He concluded to plead to the community that all valuables be secured in private places and not to use cell phones while driving.
