Pedestrian injured from falling tree during storm
RANDBURG – A man was rushed to hospital after a tree fell on him.
A pedestrian has been treated for severe injuries after a large tree fell on him during the intense storm of 8 January on Malibongwe Drive.
According to ER24’s Russel Meiring, the 55-year-old man was walking in the storm along the busy main road during the afternoon. The heavy storm caused a tree to be uprooted and it then fell on the man trapping him.
“Shortly after 5pm, paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found the man still trapped underneath the tree. ER24’s Rescue Unit used various tools to free the man from underneath the tree. He was treated for multiple fractures and several other injuries,” Meiring said.
Meiring suggested that the storm passed through the area resulted in the tree being uprooted and falling over.
“The man was stabilised on the scene and rushed to Helen Joseph Hospital for further medical care,” said Meiring.
