Scholars and parents should be vigilant of crime

RANDBURG – The police are urging students and parents to be aware of crime trends.

The Randburg police are urging new school-goers and their parents to be vigilant of crime during the first few weeks of school, college and university registration.

“It is the beginning of the year where the little and older ones are starting school and university, and as the police, we would like to advise the students and their parents to be vigilant. They must not carry a lot of cash for their registrations,” said Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja.

Maja also urged students to walk in groups from public transportation to their schools to remain safe.

“With many schools using laptops and tablets for their schooling, criminals are targeting students for their valuable electronic items – and do not allow anyone else but yourself to carry your luggage.

“We are also urging the community to be aware of bogus schools and colleges that appear at this time of the year that take in registration money and disappear soon after. Make sure the school has been registered. Also, make sure that you know exactly where the school or college is located so that you are not directed to pay money at a fraudulent place.”
