A blessed festive season wish for Ward 134

BOSKRUIN – Ward 134 councillor wishes her community a blessed and safe festive season.

Ward 134 councillor Wendy Alexander writes,

As the holiday season is upon us, I would like to wish the residents of Ward 134 and Johannesburg a blessed holiday season and a very happy new year.

During 2018 I had the privilege to work with some amazing members of the community. One of my highlights would be to appreciate the value these individuals add to the community. My goal for the ward is to ensure that the people in the community thrive and this can only be achieved through collaboration.

The heroes in Ward 134 are the community members who are actively involved in this community. Their activisms within the community keep it functioning – their involvement in the ward’s monthly clean-ups and their participation in city public participation processes. These may seem like small gestures, but it is this type of active involvement that makes a community prosper.

Some of the lowlights of the year include the huge backlog that is prevalent throughout the City. This backlog is due to decades of neglect. The city has over R170 billion worth of backlog. It will take years to rectify, but with good management, this can be tackled. One of the first steps is that the City is now investing more in maintenance in repairs than has ever been spent in the past two decades.

There are always the people that make the magic happen. I would like to thank the City’s teams who work tirelessly to deliver services to the people of Johannesburg.

To the team that supports Ward 134, I would like to make a special mention to the Randburg City Power team, who work around the clock to keep the lights turned on. To the Randburg Joburg Water team, for your efficient service, no sewage blockage is too big and not leaky pipe goes unseen too. To the team at Roodepoort JRA for your commitment and hands-on approach, your patients to understand the needs of the community. To the Randburg Pikitup team, though often challenged with limited resources your commitment to making sure it gets done, is always appreciated. The JMPD for Region C, the leadership in this team is exceptional and we the residents benefit from the passion and dedication of the members who have chosen to service us.

And to all the staff in the Roodepoort Regional office, your commitment and passion to our region are appreciated.
