Murderer placed behind bars

RANDBURG – A man was sentenced to 13 years behind bars after a murder, which occurred in May.

A 44-year-old man was recently sentenced to 13 years behind bars for murder in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

On the evening of 29 May, Randburg police constables Lebogang Moime and Nakampe Mapeti were approached by a member of the public informing them about an incident that occurred along Braam Fischer Drive in Ferndale. Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “The officers were informed that someone had just been stabbed with a knife and the suspect is still around.”

The officers then called an ambulance to assist while searching for the suspect. The suspect was pointed out to the officers with the help of community members.

The two officers searched and questioned him, finding a knife that was used to stab the victim. Skhumbuzo Steven Motaung Mbele was immediately placed under arrest. The paramedics arrived on the scene while the suspect was still inside the police vehicle and unfortunately the victim was certified dead on the scene. Mbele was charged with murder.

Maja added, “The case docket was assigned to Detective Constable Malose Malope for further investigation. He worked diligently on the docket until it was placed on the roll, and collected all necessary evidence.

“The management of this station would like to applaud and thank the members involved, for their hard work and dedication in making sure that the criminals are removed from the streets.

“And to all members of the community involved and witnesses, we also extend our gratitude and together, we can create a safer and secure country.”
