A magical moment for British International Preparatory

NORTHLANDS – The children of British International Preparatory had some interesting reading on 19 October.

The Magical Moments travel book landed in the hands of the children of British International Preparatory on 19 October.

The Magical Moments travel book has been circulating through various countries around the African continent, and for the first time, the book has arrived in South Africa.

Barbara Lawrence-Strydom, British International Preparatory principal Garth Thompson, and Anthea Thyssen-Ambursley hold the Magical Moments travel book at the special assembly on 19 October.

A ‘magical moment’ is anything that a person finds special to them, from the sun rising in the morning, to eating their favourite meal.

The school’s youngsters were eager to pick up their pens and write down their own magical moments to share with others.

Barbara Lawrence-Strydom said, “Their magical moments send a message that ‘we are all human’, and looking at each other’s examples serves to promote the spirit of humanity.”

Anthea Thyssen-Ambursley and Barbara Lawrence-Strydom formed AfriCAN Child Your Time Is Now (Acytin) to promote the culture of reading among the youth.

Lawrence-Strydom continued, “It is my responsibility as the host to travel our country to collect the magical stories of people that will be uploaded onto the magical moment’s website.

“As the ambassador for Feed a Mind Africa, which is a project under AfriCAN Child Your Time Is Now, it looks at the reading and writing the stories of children between the ages of six and ten years old.”

The initiative also works on the launching of reading clubs to support children with literacy.

“The first reading club was launched in a rural village, and during this process, I was identified to host the magical moment’s travel book,” said Lawrence-Strydom.

The Magical Moments travel book will be travelling next to Morocco after it completes its journey around South Africa.
