Talented young dancer returns from USA with gold

RANDPARK RIDGE – A young local dancer returned from the USA with a few gold medals from an international tournament.

A talented local young dancer represented South Africa at the American Dance Awards 2018 in Miami, USA, returning home with a few gold medals to proudly display.

By competing in the tournament, Dominique van Rheede van Oudtshoorn, a student at J and C Dance Creations, received her South African colours for acro-dance, receiving two golds medals and an ‘ultimate gold’ prize.

Acro-dance is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements.

Proud mom Collette van Oudtshoorn said, “Her results show that her perseverance and hard work has certainly paid off. Dominique has proven to be a truly talented young dancer with a natural flair to mesmerise the audience.”

In the past year, Dominique has competed in numerous local and international tournaments, including the Roodepoort Festival where she won first prize and the most promising novice bursary, as well as the Nova Dance Contest where she won the special award for a beautiful mover and great back and leg extensions.

The youngster also participated in numerous gold group performances in ballet, modern dance, contemporary dance, acrobatics and hip-hop dancing, and competed in the Dance World Cup in March.

Van Oudtshoorn added, “With such a drive to succeed and build a future in dance she needs sponsorship. Any financial assistance toward further tuition and competition fees for 2018 will be greatly appreciated.”
