Springbok legend Bryan Habana visits Saints for new venture

LYME PARK – Former Springbok Bryan Habana visited St Stithians College on 4 October for an exciting new venture.

St Stithians College welcomed former Springbok Bryan Habana to their sports grounds during the launch of his new venture into the world of sports marketing.

After his retirement at the end of the French rugby season this year, Habana has hung up his international rugby boots to move into a field where he hopes he can continue to add value to the culture of South African sport.

Habana and Mike Sharman, co-founder of Retroviral Digital Communications, have teamed up to launch Retroactive, a new digital sports marketing and sponsorship agency.

Habana said, “I’ve been in France for the past few years, and it is great to be back. I had a catch up with Mike, who has worked with similar brands to the ones I have worked with, and this is a great opportunity for me to bring sport to the South African public in new, fresh and exciting ways.”

Retroactive will manage fully integrated digital marketing campaigns for customised sports sponsorships and events.

Supporting Habana and Sharman in the day-to-day running of the agency is sports authority Ben Karpinski, who will fulfil the role of creative director at the agency.

The school’s learners were eager to meet their hero and pose for a quick picture.

The former Springbok also handed over a signed replica pair of his 100th test match Springbok rugby boots to display at the school with his famous number 14 printed on them.

Rector of St Stithians College Tim Nuttall added, “It is a great privilege to host Bryan Habana at our school for the launch of his new venture. Our boys and girls look up to sports heroes like him, so to have a legend like him appear at our Boys’ Sports Pavilion is a wonderful opportunity for us.”

Former Springbok Bryan Habana holds up last week’s edition of the Randburg Sun at St Stithians Colege on 4 October.

Habana added, “I really enjoyed being here today at Saints, and I am so thankful to them for the opportunity. Even though I am a KES boy, it brought back so many memories from playing here as a kid to training on these grounds as a Springbok.”
