Stations in the Johannesburg West Cluster arrested 204 suspects for various crimes committed.
The stations in the cluster, namely Linden, Randburg, Diepsloot, Douglasdale, Florida, and Roodepoort made the arrests mostly on day-to-day operations between 21 and 24 September.
Captain Makgowanyana Maja of Randburg Police Station said suspects were arrested for armed robbery, housebreaking, possession of drugs, theft of motor vehicle, general theft, contempt of court, possession of breaking implements and assault with intent to cause grievously body harm under the domestic violence act to protect vulnerable people.
He added, “Notwithstanding dealing in liqour without a license, as in most cases liqour becomes a contributing factor to those types of crimes.”
Maja said other suspects were arrested through multi-disciplinary roadblocks where drunk drivers were arrested to address fatalities on our roads during the long weekend.
According to him, suspects are expected to appear in different magistrates courts soon.
