Randburg Police raid illegal gambling operation

RANDBURG – The police and the Gauteng Gambling Board seized equipment used in an illegal gambling ring.

Randburg Police Crime Prevention and the Gauteng Gambling Board embarked on an operation to eradicate an alleged illegal gambling operation in Randburg on 19 September.

Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “The search warrant was applied for and granted after a long period of observation.”

 

Some of the equipment confiscated by the Randburg Police on 19 September used in the illegal gambling operation.

In the early afternoon, the police and members of the gambling board went to the different places identified by the investigation.

“The members found 30 monitors, 30 servers, one mouse, wi-fi routers and cash. At one of the premises, eight gambling machines and six laptops were found. All the items were confiscated as they are used for illegal gambling,” Maja added.

Eighteen suspects were arrested for illegal gambling and they are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
