Randburg Cricket Club Juniors is ready for the new cricket season

PRAEGVILLE – Local cricket club looks forward to another year of fostering the love of cricket.

Calling all young cricketers, the new season is about to start and Randburg Cricket Club Juniors is a great club to play at.

The club is based at Randburg Sports Complex, Praegville.

Travis Gillard and his father Darin wait for the youngster’s turn to bat at the Randburg Cricket Club Juniors.

Head coach, Jody Martins said the club currently comprised about 220 players from U7 to U15 level.

Players up to U13 level play in friendly matches against other clubs every Saturday, while the older players (and some good younger players) will likely play in a new competitive league starting this year.

“We are not all about winning games at the younger ages,” Martins said.

“It is my 10th year at the club and I always like seeing new things. We have new coaches coming and I enjoy seeing cricketers playing the game and loving it – even if they come to us not knowing much and by the end of the season they can play the game a bit.”

For Martins, the club’s slogan ‘every child a better cricketer’ exemplifies this attitude and fostering the love of the game is what it is all about.

He said the club planned to start a girls section, and anyone interested in joining it was welcome to contact him.

Club practices start on 8 September, and anyone interested can register on the club’s website before then.
