JOBURG – The programme targets unemployed South African citizen who are African, Coloured or Indian men and women, as well as people with disabilities.

Johannesburg Water has opened applications for 90 young people under 35 to undergo its basic skills programme.

The programme provides basic skills through an accredited institution, including practical training and candidates who successfully complete it may be considered for a business management skills training programme. Furthermore, De Jager said, the programme aims to develop technical, business and entrepreneurial skills for unemployed youth who have a minimum matriculation qualification.

“It will run for a maximum of six months broken down between theoretical classroom training and practical on-the-job training. The successful applicants will receive a stipend during the course of the programme,” he said.

The requirements are quite specific, targeting unemployed South African citizens who are African, Coloured or Indian men and women, as well as people with disabilities. Applicants should have a matric, or the equivalent thereof and live in either of the following areas: Orange Farm, Diepsloot, Soweto, Ivory Park, Alexandra, Eldorado Park, Lenasia, and the Johannesburg CBD and surrounds (for example Riverlea, Bosmont, Brixton, Doornfontein, Braamfontein, and so forth).
