RANDPARK – Rand Park High School's Kyla Swart will be representing South Africa at the International Dance Organisation World Championships held in Ossa Poland.

Rand Park High School’s Kyla Swart will be representing South Africa at the International Dance Organisation World Championships held in Ossa Poland from 1 to 10 December.

The Grade 11 will dance in the modern and jazz categories as well as formations in the adult age category.

Swart, who has been dancing since the age of three, described her passion for dance as ‘a long-time commitment’.

She practises three to four hours per day and still makes sure she finds time for her academics. She said, “I can’t wait to compete in Poland, and I am so excited to have the experience.

“I was lucky enough to go to England last year for a world championship competition. There were five countries competing in various categories and I came first in my solo performance.”

To qualify for the upcoming competition, Swart had to compete in trial groups held by the South African Body of Dance and compete to gain points in the World Trial Circuit.

The small groups are choreographed and trained at the studio One Step Ahead with choreographer Desiree Green-Demianenko.

Swart is also part of the Unity SA dance team, which is choreographed and trained by professional dancer Hope Maimane. All the group and formation items will enter the competition under the name Team SA.

The International Dance Organization is the only recognised licence holder that ca host world championship competitions in dance.
