Randburg court convicts two men for robberies

RANDBURG – The men were sentenced and convicted in the Randburg Magistrates' Court.

Two men involved in two separate violent crimes have been sentenced in Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

Nyaphafa Baloyi was sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment for a house robbery. It was found that he entered a victim’s property, on 19 November 2011 at about 2am, by breaking a door with a crowbar.

Captain Makgowanyana Maja of the Randburg Police Station explained that he woke the family, tied them up and took valuables including electrical appliances and fled the scene.

After the investigating officer tracked down the suspect and arrested him, he attended all the court proceedings until the conviction.

In a separate incident, Sipho Ngema was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for a house robbery on 3 March 2016 at about 4am in Hurlingham Manor.

The victim was woken up by Ngema. “She was tied up and a blanket was put over her head and he then stole electrical appliances,” said Maja.
