Northumberland Avenue collision claims police officer’s life
NORTHGATE – The officers were en route to a crime in progress.
A police officer has died and six others were rushed to Sunninghill Hospital following a collision at the intersection of Northumberland and Olivenhout avenues this afternoon.
Captain Balan Muthan of Honeydew Police Station explained that the seven officers were en route to a crime in progress when the fatal accident occurred.
Muthan said the Quantum minibus that carried the officers, who were all from the Diepsloot Cluster, collided with a private vehicle.
The police vehicle then over-turned with the officers inside, killing one.
