Jan Smuts Avenue road resurfacing ensures smooth ride for years to come

RANDBURG – The Johannesburg Roads Agency has undertaken extensive road resurfacing work along Jan Smuts Avenue stretching from Parktown to Randburg.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has undertaken extensive road resurfacing work along Jan Smuts Avenue stretching from Parktown to Randburg.

Ward 102 councillor, David Potter said, “In my ward alone, Jan Smuts has seen 2,4km of road resurfaced between Conrad Drive and Selkirk Avenue.”

The resurfacing of Jan Smuts Avenue included a bad service road servicing three sectional title complexes.

Further road resurfacing has been completed along Bram Fischer Drive in Ferndale and along Malibongwe Drive in Strijdom Park.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter stands on the island of the newly resurfaced Jan Smuts Avenue between Republic Road and Conrad Drive.

Potter continued, “Road resurfacing is a mammoth project requiring many trucks, resource planning and tons of manpower.”

The work took place along Jan Smuts Avenue during the night to limit the disturbance of traffic along the main thoroughfare.

Potter added, “While the noise was not ideal for some living close by, the short-term frustration versus the long-term gains cannot be compared.

“I am aware of the excess tar left on the islands and sides of the road and my office has escalated the matter to the JRA project team.

“The City of Joburg’s road network is in a poor condition and many roads require resurfacing in ward 102, the region and the city. It is for this reason that even when patching potholes, the repairs do not last as the road layer base conditions are too poor for the repair to last. I remain hopeful that further road resurfacing will take place on priority roads in the near future.”
