Wanted suspects arrested after dramatic chase

RANDPARK RIDGE – Police arrested three suspects after ATM robbery.

A combined effort between BCI Security and other law enforcement saw the arrest of three suspects involved in robbing victims at petrol stations and ATMs at shopping centres.

The suspects operate throughout the West Rand area and security was on alert for a white Mercedes C Class vehicle.

BCI Operations and TRT Teams were dispatched to several locations on Hendrik Potgieter to look out for the vehicle when they received a report that the vehicle in question had just committed an ATM robbery at The Ridge Shopping Centre in Wilgeheuwel.

When the teams arrived on the scene, they were informed by the security of the centre that the suspects had fled up Paul Kruger Road towards John Vorster Road.

Whilst searching other shopping centres in the surrounding area, an operations manager from BCI Security spotted the suspects’ vehicle at Rock Cottage on John Vorster Road and tried to block them with his own vehicle.

The suspects avoided the operation manager’s vehicle and slammed into a member of the public’s vehicle.

They then allegedly fired shots at the member of the public who returned fire and shot and blew the suspects’ vehicle.

One of the suspects who had sustained a gunshot wound was found hiding in a property by an Afriforum Jhb West patroller. Moments after the suspect was apprehended, a vehicle pulled up to the property where the suspect was found and claimed to be the brother of the suspect. The brother had been allegedly called by the suspect to collect him from that location as he had been shot.

Police cordoned off the area and the suspects were apprehended.

Two other suspects were also found and were questioned by police. A handgun was found in the glove compartment with a large amount of money.

Both occupants were arrested and taken to Honeydew Police Station for questioning. The suspect who was shot was transported under police guard to a local hospital for treatment.

According to Honeydew Police Station’s Captain Balan Muthan, the suspects are allegedly also involved in bank card fraud in various malls and banks in the area.
