Get ready for A Re Sebetseng this Saturday

JOBURG – Are you ready to get cleaning in this month's A Re Sebetseng?

A Re Sebetseng, the City of Johannesburg’s monthly volunteer clean-up campaign held on the third Saturday of every month, is around the corner again and there are many spots across Joburg that need cleaning.

Volunteers will head to these spots across Joburg’s 135 wards and start cleaning from 8am.

If you would like to join, visit the A Re Sebetseng website, www.aresebetsengjhb.wordpress.com to find out what spot is earmarked close to you.

Choose the region you live in at the top of the website and you will be directed to the page with the ward, location and councillor’s contact details.

Remember to bring gloves, water, and comfortable shoes and, most importantly, as many volunteers as you can gather.

A Re Sebetseng, meaning ‘let’s work’, was launched in August last year by the Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba in Yeoville.

It is modelled on the Rwanda Umaganda, which is also a monthly campaign where all residents come together to clean their City.

Through the campaign, Mashaba said, the City of Kigali is now known as the cleanest in Africa.

The mayor also joins a different group every month, gloves and bags in hand.

“The purpose of A Re Sebetseng is to raise awareness whilst educating and encouraging residents to manage waste effectively and to take care of their environment,” he said.

Remember to use #AReSebetseng and tag Randburg Sun when you share your photos.
