Learners through to next round of the National Eisteddfod Academy

ROBINDALE – These learners performed their hearts out to the applause of the audience

Comfortable on stage and with enough confidence to represent Laerskool Unika, Anja Engelbrecht, Dirk Jacobs and Nicola van Tonder competed at the National Eisteddfod Academy.

The three children wowed audiences and judges alike and received the nod to go through to the quarterfinals of the talent competition.

The academy is celebrating 21 years of being in existence, focusing on youth development and the children gave their all at the Roodepoort Theatre where the event was held.

Dirk recited Afrikaans poetry and is also a noted singer and performer while Anja, last year’s quarterfinalist, showcased her improvement in just a few short months with a monologue.

Nicola also showed off her talent by performing a dramatic monologue on stage.

The trio will prepare for the next level of participation where the best young performers from various regions in the country can compete for prize money of about R50 000.

The academy has had a significant impact on youth development in the arts, exposing more than a million people, including participants, parents and supporters across the country to the magic of the arts.

For more information interested individuals or institutions are invited to contact the National Eisteddfod Academy’s office at 011 886 6005.
