VOX POP: Pothole problems plague Joburg residents

BOSKRUIN – The Randburg Sun spoke to residents at the Boskruin Community Centre to get their opinion on the pothole issue.

As Joburg residents have to deal with new potholes on their roads every day, and existing ones getting larger by the minute, the Randburg Sun spoke to residents at the Boskruin Community Centre to get their opinion on the issue.

JO LONGSTAFF: I fetch my granddaughter at her school near Randridge Mall and there is a massive pothole, which was filled, but not properly. The traffic that it caused is horrendous.

BERNADETTE HANMER: They fixed the area near Northwold Spar but the road still needs resurfacing. There is another pothole where someone even went to the extent of putting a concrete block inside the pothole, which has helped to alert other drivers to the danger.

MARIUS GELDENHUYS: Surprisingly, this problem is not unique to South Africa at the moment according to what I have read. In Germany and other parts of Europe, they are also struggling with pothole issues… It is an asphalt issue over there.

DAPHNE DANDO: We haven’t got potholes… We have dongas. They are just becoming impossible to miss, and driving has become a game on the road.

GRAHAM KNIGHT: If potholes were fixed up properly in the first place, then there would be no problem. They always seem to occur after heavy rain, and the combination of the two makes it even more dangerous to drive.
