Momberg expected back in court to apply for leave to appeal her prison sentence and conviction

JOBURG – Vicki Momberg will be in the Randburg Magistrates' Court later this morning to apply for leave to appeal her sentence and conviction.

Vicki Momberg is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court today to apply for leave to appeal her prison sentence and conviction.

Momberg is appealing her two-year jail sentence after she was found guilty on four counts of crimen injuria.

Her attempt to start the appeal process was delayed last week due to the ill health of her advocate. The case was also postponed to this week to allow the defence to get transcripts they requested from the state to prepare for their appeal application.

Defence attorney, Kingdom Onah expressed confidence that they would be successful in having magistrate Pravina Rugoonandan’s decision overturned. Onah said it was the defence’s opinion that the magistrate didn’t consider all evidence led during the trial in reaching her decision.
